Year 9 – English
Year 9 English is where students start to move from “understanding a text” to interrogating it. Texts become more layered in theme, structure and viewpoint, and students are expected to respond with stronger reasoning, clearer evidence, and more polished expression. At NexGen Tutoring, our Year 9 English program is aligned with the Australian Curriculum and continues to develop the three key strands of Language, Literature and Literacy.
Across the year, students engage with complex novels, poetry, drama, nonfiction, journalism, speeches and film/media. They learn to unpack perspectives, analyse representations of people and issues, and craft responses that sound mature, convincing and well-structured. Lessons combine explicit teaching, guided modelling and regular practice tasks, supported by structured worksheets and targeted feedback.
