Year 6 – English
Year 6 English is about sharpening comprehension, strengthening expression, and building the skills students need for the transition into high school. Texts become more complex, ideas become more abstract, and students are expected to explain how authors and creators shape meaning. At NexGen Tutoring, our Year 6 English program is aligned with the Australian Curriculum and continues to develop the three key strands of Language, Literature and Literacy.
Across the year, students engage with fiction, nonfiction, poetry and media texts, including written and multimodal forms. They learn to interpret figurative language, evaluate author choices, and write with greater clarity and structure. Lessons combine explicit teaching, guided practice and independent work, supported by structured worksheets and regular feedback so students improve steadily and confidently.
