Year 2 – English

Year 2 is a crucial year for building strong foundations in reading, writing, speaking and listening. At NexGen Tutoring, our Year 2 English program is aligned with the Australian Curriculum and focuses on the three key strands of Language, Literature and Literacy.

Across the year, students work with carefully chosen short stories, poems and simple information texts. Lessons combine explicit teaching, guided practice and independent work, supported by structured worksheets and regular feedback so that every child knows exactly what to do next to improve.

What Your Child Will Learn

Reading and Viewing
Students will:

    • Build a strong bank of common and high-frequency words

Spelling, Grammar, & Vocabulary
Students will:

    • Understand and use nouns, verbs and descriptive words correctly
    • Develop a growing vocabulary through reading and discussion

Speaking & Listening
Students will practise:
